FreeRange Permaculture is a family operated business based at Rosella Waters, our small acreage demonstration site for the Far North. With a young family ourselves, we are as passionate about the stewardship of our environment as we are about the services we provide that assist you enrich yours.

At FreeRange Permaculture, we provide world class design & education services for both urban and rural landscapes. Our range of courses and workshops, in a variety of sustainable practices including Permaculture, Keyline Design and Compost & Compost Tea, aim to empower you with the skills and knowledge required to design and develop sustainable systems anywhere in the world.

From the balcony to the backyard our design services offer practicle and effective solutions to the challenges we all face in living a sustainable life. Our broadacre consultancy assists farmers in achieving economic prosperity whilst constantly improving their soil fertility.

Kym Kruse - Educator, Designer, Community Developer

Kym grew up in the beautiful foothills of Adelaide, a short bicycle ride from Belair National Park. A childhood spent catching tadpoles, stalking wallabies on his push bike, and family holidays camping in National Parks all over Australia developed a deep affinity for all things environmental. His professional background is in restaurant and resort managment both in Australia and overseas.

Kym spent several years living abroad, including a lengthy stint in Japan where he became fluent in Japanese. In 2002 he studied Integrated Rice & Duck cultivation under World Economic Forum Social Entrepreneur Takao Furuno. He also spent many years working as a Tropical Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef interpretive guide.

Kym received his Permaculture Design and Teaching accreditation from Geoff Lawton at the Permaculture Research Institute. Since then Kym has focussed completely on Permaculture Design & Education, which has included serving his community by establishing non-for profit community group Permaculture Cairns. 

Kym is currently developing Rosella Waters, a Permaculture demonstration site with his wife and business partner Georgie Kruse and 3 year old son Jack. He manages FreeRange Permaculture, a family business that provides educational courses and offers systems design consultancy to both urban and rural clients. Kym is also the current President of Permaculture Cairns.
